Welcome to Spirit River Community’s signature ministry!

Spirit River Community is a new congregation in the Isanti MN. area. The congregation was initiated in 2009 and launched weekly services on Oct. 10th, 2010. Part of Spirit River Community’s DNA is social Justice issues. Especially those that touch economic and community wellness issues. As evidence to this and as a way to express this core value and passion of the congregation, Matthew 25 was how we introduced our congregation to the community. A year before our weekly services we began this food distribution ministry.

Once a month, on the second Saturday, Spirit River Community distributes food to any and all who show up. Every person, no matter the age, receives two grocery bags of food. As an example, a parent and two children would receive six bags of groceries. We serve from the Isanti Community Center. Doors open at 10:00am. We serve an average of 285 people each month. We have had as many as 550 and as few as 175. The food is from national grocers’ regional warehouses and is not out of date. It is food the chains recognize will not get from warehouse to store to consumer to the consumer’s table in time. The food is trucked to us by the St Paul Evangelistic Society. Each month it costs us $2000 to make this ministry happen.
